Is Style Relevant?

In almost every fashion magazine, book, article there is something about your style. How to define it, recognize it, and embrace it.  Sometimes there may even be generic fashion pieces that are "must-haves", such as a striped shirt for a more classic style, a leather jacket for a grunge style, or patterned tights for an eclectic-type style.  However, I don't think there is a need to define your style by gaping at a bunch of overpriced clothes in a magazine article that make you feel depressed about your current clothing situation.  Your "style" is your own, and it shouldn't have to be defined at all.

The great thing about fashion is that you can experiment.  Have different identities.  Wear clothes that have a story behind them, whether real or fake.  So why should you limit yourself to one certain type of style? That surely isn't any fun.

I think that style is defined as, simply, what you like and what you don't; your aesthetic.  It isn't limiting yourself to a certain type of clothes, nor a certain persona.  I am not trying to disdain those ever-so-helpful style books, however.  They actually fuel the fire and are a great inspiration.
