1950's housewife inspired look/ Van's inspired photography

Vans ad.
One of my favorite outfits.  A style that will satisfy
one's vintage fashion cravings.  It's odd because
I never suspected these pieces to go together! I mean
come on- a cashmere sweater, tiny green lace shorts,
thigh high ivory socks, and my mom's vintage shoes?
Who knew!?
Look inspired by the style of a 1950's housewife
and the photography of the "Van's Off the Wall" ad
campaigns.

Agnes B. Paris knit shirt, pearls (unknown), Dinky Souvenir shorts,
Merona brand creme knee socks, Chie Mahara shoes.

Pearls, orange sweater top, green lacey shorts, cream knee highs,
and  vintage pink heels.

Stella oh Stella (McCartney)

I'm kind of obsessed with Stella McCartney.  Then again, who isn't?
I love her because she makes amazing fashion, that is eco-friendly.
Plus- you can't forget, she's the daughter of Paul McCartney!
Pretty cool...

grunge

My new favorite boots.  After the everlasting
search,  I finally found these!
This is my "cheap" outfit, so to speak.  $20 dress, $40 boots, $6 tights, $10 necklace.  Amazing outfit- low price.  My favorite type of outfit ;)  As for my hair, I kept it in braids all weekend.  In result- perfect waves!  Ah.  (I should do that more often!)
I got this amazing dress, necklace, and these tights at Forever 21! Amazing store.  I'm in love with this dress- it has a 1920's feel, yet has that modern, grungy look.

Ruby Blue

So You Think You Can Dance, dance to
Ruby Blue
Red lipstick, a scooter, and attitude.  That's what makes it all
come together.
You'd better stop
And try to think
Look what you're doing
Oh, Ruby

You never get to
Give it all you got
Cause you forgot
To take it to the top
Come On
Ruby Blue

Inspired by the song "Ruby Blue" by Roisin Murphy

I Need My Beauty Sleep! [Pajama Style]

Sweet and innocent.  Tie dye hoodie
Lounging... Hoody with oh-so comfortable flower fleece pants...
Makes you wanna crawl right into bed, am I right?
Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed...
Example of the modern day bedhead + the modern
day 6:30am attitude.  Not exactly the best combo

Sunglasses Couture + A Fun Do-at-Home Project

Who loves sunglasses?  I for one do.  Heck, I even named my email after them. I think the key to rockin out sunglasses is to pick bold ones such as the ones in the picture on the left.

Sunglasses displayed
I have probably lost 3 pairs of sunglasses in the last year.  That's why I think it's important to stay organized with your sunglasses.

So I made this -->
View without sunglasses
To make this you basically have to get a thin, yet strong piece of cardboard.  Fold the bottom down to support it.  Use a hole puncher to punch holes for the sunglasses and widen them out using a scissors.  The width depends on how thick the sunglasses are.  Pop the sunglasses in and see if it works. If it doesn't, then try attaching a easel back to it (to support the weight
of the sunglasses).  Fits about 4 pairs
of sunglasses. Enjoy!

...comfy...a word that usually isn't used to describe fashion

Comfy is not always a familiar term in fashion.  Real designer fashion anyways.  But I have found that sometimes to make comfy look chic you, well, have to look comfy.  It's that whole stayed at home, threw on this, sweet right? I put on this because I was going to be relaxing, and I thought why not.  Blue tank top, knit top, metallic purple skirt, socks. Mascara, nude lipstick.  Simple.

A Thought

It's amazing how fashion means something different to every person.  For some, what you wear reflects your personality, style, or mood but to others, style doesn't reflect anything except the use of it.  Personally, I am one of those people whose style reflects, well, my style plus my personality.  I test my style all the time.  It's not that I am testing it to see how it fits in, but simply how much I like it and how I can learn from it: like trial and error.  I sometimes feel like a perfectionist when it comes to style, but I know that I am not.  Simply, there is no word that I know of that describes how I cannot just throw on a shirt and pants, that I have to spend atleast 10 minutes picking out an outfit that reflects me and just feels right.  I'm not quite a "perfectionist" when it comes to that, but more of something that is along the lines of that... You know what I mean?

Street Chic.ago [fashion camp 2010]

Earlier this summer, I did a fashion camp at the School of the Art Institute with 2 of my friends.  My teacher Cheryl Pope was amazing (she's probably reading this now!) Pictured above is my friend in one of my outfits I designed when we did a photo shoot.  Below is another shot of her. I took these photos at Millenium Park. I found this little dirty abandoned staircase. It was kind of creepy because I was afraid someone was going to jump out at me, but it was a great background for these photos!

Also, I included a picture of the 2 of us!  My friend is wearing a dress that she designed and I am wearing my everyday clothes...

Planning Out Outfits...

Some people may say it is easier to plan out outfits before you wear them, to make sure that everything will go "just fine".  I have tried laying out outfits for the next school day many times, but it has never seemed to settle with me.  I lay in my bed thinking about the outfit and by the next day, I don't want to wear it.  What you wear depends on many things.  Things like your mood, the weather, what's "in", and such.  There is something spontaneous about picking out your clothes at 6:45 am.  Something magical.  When you pick out the right outfit, it just clicks.  Even though it may take you 10 or so more minutes, sometimes improv outfit- making is fun.

Above photo note, this is not my closet I simply found it online.

Playing With Layers

Here's one of my latest tops that I wore to school! I know on blogs, you usually don't see pictures of people's backs, but I decided to mix it up and take a picture of something from another angle, while still displaying the main point.  Basically, there are two tanktops that are layered: a creme and a blue one. The blue one has a cutout in the back, so it was perfect to layer with.  I wore it with dark skinny jeans, flats, and
a zipper bracelet.  So ya!

My Birthday!

My mom, aunt, friend, and I went out to eat at this AMAZING Italian Restaurant on my birthday, June 2.  Here's a picture of my friend Lillie, my aunt Linda, and me!  We are all rocking our outfits :)

New Outfit Pictures!

Sequins, sequins, sequins, oh my!

This is a black sequin dress with
a grayish purple sequin jacket.
I added a dog tag necklace to
it to add a little bit of edge...
Not something that I would
wear to school!!!

Inspiring Pictures- Art Chicago

So I went to Art Chicago a week ago with my mom and
it was very inspiring! There was a certain section that I
liked called NEXT of all new artists.  Amazing! Here
are some art photos from the Modern Section and
NEXT that caught my eye...

Outfit Picture!

Ok this is my first outfit that I put together! It is basically a green vintage tee with a beige sparkling skirt. I added lacy socks and 3 necklaces as an extra touch.

Fashion Definition?

I looked up a "fashion" definition and this is what I came up with...

Fashion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Fashion, a general term for the style and custom prevalent at a given time, in its most common usage refers to costume or clothing style."

Is there a definition for fashion? Definitely something to think about...
